Swati, who was a member of Democratic Student Federation (DSF) and had filed her candidature for the post of General Election on behalf of Left Alliance, but at 2.A.M. Swati was informed that her candidature got cancelled. In this situation, Swati had issued a statement “It has come to my notice that the JNUSU Election Committee has issued a public notice cancelling my candidature for the post of General Secretary. This notice has been issued at 2.00 AM on 22.03.2024, just 7 hours before the beginning of polling. I am shocked at this sudden and arbitrary cancellation of my candidature at the last moment, even after the EC had held my nomination to be valid. It is grossly unfair to the electors to cancel a candidature on the polling day which vitiates the fairness of the election process, In view of the situation arising out of the Grievance Redressal Cell’s order dated 21.03.2024, I request you to cancel the election for the post of General Secretary and conduct re-election after the re-nomination of candidates. I hope this would done to free and fair polls.”
