23rd March is observed as a black day in colonial history because on this day in the year, 1931, three young revolutionaries from India, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru was hanged by British and they secretly disposed their bodies. This brutal act by British made the revolutionaries more popular especially among youths to fight against social, political and economic oppression against British.
