Professors of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya show caused for running an informal Ambedkar Study Circle. The university has forced the body of Ambedkarite faculty members to stop their weekly discussions on Ambedkar’s works.
Ambedkar Study Circle
A group of Dalit faculty started the Ambedkar Study Circle in the university premises by 2022. The circle meets every Thursday by 6 PM in front of Ambedkar statue at the campus and start their discussion by reading Preamble and discusses on various writings of BR Ambedkar and end their discussion by singing national anthem. They held around 60 sessions in two years.
Why Show cause notice?
The university registrar –in charge, Dharvesh Katheriya, ordered to stop the Ambedkar Study Circle. Katheriya had issued notices to seven faculty members citing them that by reading Ambedkar’s works, the health and security of the campus will suffer, it will also tarnish the university image. The notice also said that the circle had not taken any permission to the authorities.
While the faculties told that they had informed the authorities about the circle and by reading Preamble and Ambedkar’s works none of the students health and security was compromised. Out of seven faculties one had resigned from circle the other two transferred and another was removed from administrative posts.
