5 Lakhs OBC Certificates Cancelled in West Bengal

This Lok Sabha election, OBC community are point of focus, since, they are the largest voter group in this country. While media is debating over, implementation of OBC reservation in various sectors, in this sequence, a shocking news has come from West Bengal where Calcutta High Court had cancelled OBC certificates issued since 2010. According to the High Court, the certificates issued after 2010 had not followed the provisions of National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993. So, its duty of the state legislature to consult the National Commission for Backward Classes and prepare a report for state legislature. However, the court also said that those who got services by using OBC certificates, will remain in the service.

After, HC decision Mamata Banerjee said that she is not going to accept the order. The issue of OBC had been politicised, the certificates issued to OBC community is after door to door survey. She will move to apex court regarding this matter.

The Home Minister, Amit Shah had reacted to the situation, and said that how a person who is holding constitutional position can deny the judicial order. He further said that in the name of OBC reservation the current West Bengal government had benefitted the Muslim community. They had brought entire Muslim community under OBC category.
