A shocking news coming from state of Tripura, around 800+ students infected with HIV in Tripura. According to Tripura AIDS Control Society, around 828 students infected with HIV and 47 of them also died by disease. The main reason for huge spread of infection is injectable drug usage (IUD). This incidence had raised a crucial question on the state as well as central government about their inaction towards the deadly disease.

What is HIV and AIDS?

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an infection that attacks the body’s immune system. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is the most advanced stage of the disease.

HIV targets the body’s white blood cells, weakening the immune system. This makes it easier to get sick with diseases like tuberculosis, infections and some cancers.

HIV is spread from the body fluids of an infected person, including blood, breast milk, semen and vaginal fluids. It is not spread by kisses, hugs or sharing food. It can also spread from a mother to her baby.

HIV can be treated and prevented with antiretroviral therapy (ART). Untreated HIV can progress to AIDS, often after many years.

There is no proper treatment of HIV which can completely eradicate virus from patient’s body, ART can diminish the effect of virus and can boost immune but if any person got HIV he/she has to live with it for whole life.
