From past couple of years, Caste Census was in discussion. The opposition is constantly demanding caste census, in fact it was biggest demand for Lok Sabha Election 2024. The government official said that the government is planning to conduct census as it is already delayed because of Covid-19. The Women Reservation Act could not be implemented because of delayed census, so census is must for further implementation of laws.
There is constant news running in media that the government is planning to add ‘caste’ columns to the census. However, it has been not confirmed by government.
In the recent, leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati are constantly attacking government for delayed census and not inclusion of caste into it.
