December 7th has been marked as Armed Forces Flag Day in order to mark the contribution and sacrifices made by our soldiers. The day has been observed to create awareness about difficulties faced by the families of armed forces.
After gaining independence, the government of India acknowledged the importance of ensuring the welfare of its defense personnel. On August 28, 1949, a committee led by the defense minister proposed the establishment of an annual Flag Day to be observed on December 7.
The primary objective was to distribute small flags to the public and gather donations in return. This occasion serves as a reminder that citizens should actively contribute to supporting the families and kin of the armed forces, who play a crucial role in safeguarding the nation.
