December 14 is observed as National Energy Conservation Day in India, an annual celebration that has been observed since 1991. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), operating under the Ministry of Power, takes the lead in organizing and coordinating the festivities each year.

The primary focus of National Energy Conservation Day is to acknowledge and promote the efforts made by industries to curtail energy consumption. The BEE actively participates in this initiative by conferring the National Energy Conservation Awards upon those industries that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in energy conservation.

Furthermore, the BEE contributes to the promotion of energy conservation by recognizing and rewarding the national winners of the annual National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation. This competition serves as a platform to engage and encourage artistic expression among the younger generation while fostering awareness about the importance of energy conservation.
