The expanding influence of China in the Indian Ocean region, the Indian Navy inaugurated its latest domestically manufactured stealth-guided missile destroyer, INS Imphal, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Tuesday. Present at the commissioning ceremony were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The formal inclusion ceremony marks the introduction of the third destroyer of the ‘Visakhapatnam’ class into the Navy. These destroyers, crafted and built by the Indian Navy’s in-house organization, the Warship Design Bureau, showcase the nation’s self-sufficient capabilities.
