Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today that the prestigious Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, will be bestowed upon former prime ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Charan Singh, along with esteemed scientist Dr. MS Swaminathan.

PV Narasimha Rao, who served as the prime minister from 1991 to 1996, is widely recognized as the architect of India’s economic liberalization. His tenure marked a transformative period in the country’s economic policies.

Charan Singh, a stalwart advocate for the rights of workers and farmers, briefly held the position of prime minister in 1979. His commitment to championing the cause of these sections of society has left a lasting impact on India’s political landscape.

Dr. MS Swaminathan, a distinguished scientist, is celebrated as the visionary behind India’s green revolution. His groundbreaking contributions to agricultural science have played a pivotal role in transforming and modernizing the agricultural sector in the country.

The announcement of Bharat Ratna for these eminent figures reflects the government’s recognition of their exceptional contributions to the nation in diverse fields, spanning politics, economics, and science.
