A tragic incident unfolded at the Khanauri border crossing in Sangrur district, where a 22-year-old Punjab farmer, actively participating in the protests, lost his life due to a head injury on Wednesday. The unfortunate event occurred as security personnel from Haryana reportedly employed tear gas shells and, as per the farmers’ accounts, even rubber bullets when they resumed their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to advocate for a guaranteed minimum support price (MSP).

Punjab authorities disclosed that a total of 26 individuals sustained injuries at the Khanauri and Shambhu border crossings, where Haryana Police had set up barricades to impede the farmers’ progress. Shubhkaran Singh, aged 22, leaves behind a family that had to sell off an acre of its 3.5-acre land to sustain the household and arrange the marriage of its eldest daughter. Unfortunately, he has departed while the loan waiver, for which he fervently fought, is yet to materialize.
