A socio-economic survey report, delivered today, has triggered a political dispute in Karnataka, even though its details are yet to be disclosed publicly. The survey, commissioned by the previous Siddaramaiah government in 2017, has caused consternation among the politically influential Lingayat and Vokkaliga castes, prompting calls for its suppression.
Jaiprakash Hegde, Chairman of the OBC Commission, submitted the 2017 socio-economic survey report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today. Hegde, who reached Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru at 2.45 pm on the last day of his tenure, had a brief meeting with Mr. Siddaramaiah before addressing the media.
“We have presented the report. The CM mentioned that he will present it in the next Cabinet meeting and make a decision,” he stated. The Chief Minister concurred, opting not to provide further comments.
