As Reserve Bank of India completes 89 years on 1st April, 2024, but very few of us know about the idea of RBI is conceptualised by Dr. BR Ambedkar. Dr. BR Ambedkar, who is renowned social reformer, economist and socio-politico expert.
The RBI was conceptualised in accordance with the guidelines presented by BR Ambedkar to Hilton Commission (Royal Commission on Indian Currency and Finance) based on his book “The Problem of Rupee, Its origin and Its Solution”.
The then legislative assembly passed an act named RBI act, 1934, its working style, and outlook was presented by BR Ambedkar.
It is often seen that streets of India shows the hoardings of State Bank of India, with a picture of Rabindranath Tagore, as he is portrayed as ‘Banker of the Nation’ and on the Indian currency we see the picture of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. But BR Ambedkar’s economic contribution is hidden, and people are still unaware about economic expertise of Babasaheb. BR Ambedkar advocated the abolition of capitalist society. He was in favour of promotion of industralisation in India along with agriculture.
