In the midnight of 8th August, every eye of Indian fans was glued at screen because defending champion of Javelin throw Neeraj Chopra was in action. In the men’s javelin final, Nadeem stunned the field with a remarkable throw of 92.97m on his second attempt, setting a new Olympic record and surpassing the previous mark of 90.57m set by Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Games. Neeraj Chopra, who responded with a season-best throw of 89.45m in the second round, secured the second spot but couldn’t surpass Nadeem’s incredible feat. Nadeem further solidified his dominance with another impressive throw of 91.79m in his final attempt. Neeraj, unable to match his rival’s performance, ended up with just one successful throw and ultimately conceded the title to Nadeem, who became Pakistan’s first Olympic medallist since the 1992 Barcelona Games. While Grenada’s Anderson Peters clinched Bronze.
