Rumors of kidnapping circulating on social media had heightened tensions in the community, and when the mob encountered the transgender person returning from a meal at a nearby eatery, they mistakenly suspected them of being a kidnapper.

The situation escalated as the mob tied the individual to a lamp post, stripped them partially, and subjected them to physical assault. The victim repeatedly asserted that they were not the alleged kidnapper, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Upon receiving notification of the incident, the police promptly arrived at the scene and intervened to rescue the transgender person. Legal action has been taken, with a case filed under sections 147 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 B (obscene acts or words), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), and relevant sections of the Women Harassment Act.

This incident highlights the urgency of addressing misinformation on social media and emphasizes the importance of promoting awareness and understanding within communities to prevent such unjustifiable acts of violence.
